Data collection was conducted with the structured self-report questionnaire from September 15th to October 30th, 2019. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson¡¯s correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression.

Results: Life satisfaction had a significant positive correlation with self-care competency (r=.47, p<.001) and family support (r=.29, p=.001) and had a significant negative correlation with depression (r=-.68, p<.001). In the final multiple regression analysis, the factors influencing life satisfaction of subjects were self-care competency (¥â=.18, p=.013) and depression (¥â=-.54, p<.001). The explanatory power of self-care competency and depression on life satisfaction was 51.8% (F=26.69, p<.001).

Conclusion: Increasing self-care competency and decreasing depression in older patients with diabetes mellitus will ultimately improve their life satisfaction and positively impact on their ability to enjoy a healthy life in old age.
